Madewood Plantation
Bus Trip

Join us for a bus trip to visit Madewood Plantation in Napoleonville on November 13th to include the home and its grounds, family cemetery, and former slave quarters.
Madewood is considered one of the finest examples of Greek Revival plantation architecture in the country. Renowned architect Henry Howard designed the house for Colonel Thomas Pugh as his first important commission. It was completed in 1846 using as its historic plaque states "materials from the land."
The Keith Marshall family bought the house in 1964 and used it as a family home as well as a bed and breakfast until its sale in 2018. This National Historic Landmark property was acquired by noted New York based artist Hunt Slonem. Mr. Slonem first undertook significant structural work before turning his attention to furnishing the home with period pieces of furniture and decorative arts, as well as covering many of the walls with his own paintings. Madewood is now one of the two private Louisiana residences owned by Mr. Slonem (the other is Lakeside Plantation, located north of Baton Rouge).
The visit will be self-guided but handouts will be available as well as 1-2 people familiar with the home and some furnishings. As Madewood is now a private house there are no official tour guides.
Please note that the house is not wheelchair accessible.
Tour limited to 50 participants.
